Tennis Hotels in Venice and the Veneto: The Best Luxury Hotels with Tennis Courts (2026)

Venice has very little spare ground, so a hotel tennis court here is a genuine luxury. The courts that exist sit where there is room: on the sandy Lido, on private lagoon islands, in the gardens of the Giudecca, and among the villas, thermal spas and pine woods of the wider Veneto. This guide covers hotels with their own courts, the clubs that take visitors, and the best months to play.

Venice hotels with tennis courts are few, and the Lido and island resorts fill fast for June, September and the Film Festival. Compare rates early if your dates are fixed.

The best luxury hotels in Venice and the Veneto with their own tennis courts

Island in the Venetian lagoon

Every hotel below has tennis on its own grounds. Venetian hotels publish surprisingly little about their courts, so where surface, floodlights or coaching could not be confirmed, ask the hotel before you book.

Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort (Lido di Venezia)

The Moorish-style Excelsior has stood on the Lungomare Marconi since 1908, next to the Palazzo del Cinema. The hotel lists tennis courts on site, booked through the concierge, but it does not publish how many there are, the surface, floodlighting or coaching, so ask the hotel before you pack your racquet. The 18-hole Circolo Golf Venezia is about 20 minutes away at Alberoni, and the hotel arranges tee times.

The Excelsior reopened on 5 May 2026 after the first phase of a multi-year renovation. Beyond the courts you have a long private beach with cabanas, an outdoor pool with sea views, a gym with classes (there is no full spa), and Amù Venice, the new terrace restaurant, pool bar and beach club that opened in July 2026. A free hotel boat reaches St Mark’s in about 15 to 20 minutes. It is seasonal, open roughly from late April to early November. Read our full Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido review for rooms and practical tips.

Best for: combining beach days, a daily hit and evenings in Venice, especially in June and September.

San Clemente Palace (Isola di San Clemente, Venice)

A former monastery on its own five-hectare island in the southern lagoon, San Clemente is around eight minutes by boat from St Mark’s. Mandarin Oriental took over management in 2025, closed the hotel in November 2025 for a three-phase renovation, and announced a rebrand as Mandarin Oriental, Venice from April 2026. Our research turned up contradictory information on where that process stands: the brand announced the new name for spring 2026, while booking platforms still list the hotel as San Clemente Palace, Venice, with guest reviews through autumn 2026. It was not clear to us which name applies when you book, so check with the hotel.

The courts are similarly unclear. Older guides describe two tennis courts, current booking listings mention one outdoor court, and Mandarin Oriental said new tennis and padel courts would be built over the winter renovation. Ask the hotel how many courts are in play for your dates and what surface they have. The rest is reliable: 136 rooms and suites, a large outdoor pool, a spa with sauna and steam room, a yoga pavilion and four places to eat.

Best for: couples and families who want a resort with courts and a pool, with Venice ten minutes away by boat.

Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel (Giudecca, Venice)

Across the water from St Mark’s, at the tip of the Giudecca, the Cipriani hides a world of gardens behind its walls, and among them a single tennis court. The hotel does not publish its surface, floodlighting or lesson options, so ask the concierge when you book, and reserve your time early in summer, because one court among 96 rooms and suites goes quickly.

The rest of the stay is pure Venetian glamour: an Olympic-size, heated saltwater pool, the Michelin-starred Oro, Cip’s Club on the lagoon edge facing the Doge’s Palace, and the new Dior Spa, which opened in 2026 over two floors with five treatment rooms as part of Peter Marino’s phased renovation. The hotel is seasonal and closes over the winter; ask for exact 2026 and 2027 dates.

Best for: travellers who want to stay in the heart of Venice and still play before breakfast.

Charlotte’s tip: play early, cross the water late

In Venice the best tennis slot is 8am, before the humidity settles over the lagoon. Take the first court of the day, swim, then head into the city. Save the boat ride back for after an aperitivo, when the lagoon turns gold.

Villa Franceschi Hotel & Resort (Mira, Riviera del Brenta)

On the Riviera del Brenta, the canal of Palladian summer villas between Venice and Padua, Villa Franceschi is a 16th-century villa and its barchessa set in a walled park beside the river. It has a tennis court in the grounds, charged as an extra, but no published details on surface or lighting, so ask the hotel. The outdoor pool is seasonal, and there is a small restaurant in the side building.

It suits those who want a villa rather than a resort. No winter closure is published, but some services are seasonal, so check what will be open outside summer.

Best for: a quieter villa base with a court in the garden and easy access to both Venice and Padua.

Abano Grand Hotel (Abano Terme, Euganean Hills)

Abano Terme, below the Euganean Hills south of Padua, is the Veneto’s spa capital, and the five-star Abano Grand Hotel is its grandest address. It lists a tennis court among its facilities, which pairs well with the main reason to come: three thermal pools with whirlpools, open all year, inside a 20,000 square metre park, plus the 3,800 square metre Romanae Thermal Spa with mud treatments and a separate Venezia Spa with saunas and a Kneipp path. Court surface, lighting and coaching are not published, so ask the hotel.

The hotel has 189 rooms and several restaurants and bars. One point needs care: our research turned up contradictory information on children. The Michelin Guide listing and some tour operators describe the hotel as adults only, while one major booking platform says children can stay in some rooms. It was not clear to us which applies, so confirm with the hotel before booking with family.

Best for: a year-round tennis and thermal spa break, especially in spring and late autumn when the coast is closed.

Bellevue Hotel & Resort (Lido di Jesolo)

At the quieter eastern end of Lido di Jesolo, this four-star superior hotel sits in a pine wood with two tennis courts in the garden and lessons with a coach on request. Courts are charged as an extra, and the surface and lighting are not published, so ask the hotel.

A wooden path leads through the pines to a private beach section, and there is an outdoor pool, a garden sauna, massages and La Rotonda restaurant for fish and seafood. It has 61 rooms. Our research turned up contradictory information on opening: one listing describes the pool as open all year, another describes the hotel and pool as seasonal. Confirm dates with the hotel if you plan to travel outside summer.

Best for: a beach holiday on the Adriatic with a daily hit under the pines, about an hour from Venice.

Tennis clubs on the Lido where visitors can play

Tennis net close up

The Lido is the one part of Venice with real tennis clubs, which helps if your hotel court is booked or you are staying in the centre. Policies for non-members change, so ask your concierge to call ahead.

  • Tennis Club Ca’ del Moro: on Via Ferruccio Parri, with around a dozen indoor and outdoor courts in clay and artificial turf, open daily from 8.30am to 8.30pm. It runs a school for children and a holiday package that combines tennis with a Venice stay.
  • Tennis Club Lido: on Via Sandro Gallo, near the Bagno Marconi in the centre of the Lido, open daily with a lunchtime break. Court numbers and surface are not published, so phone ahead.

If you are moving on to the lakes, our guides to tennis hotels on Lake Garda and tennis hotels on Lake Como cover the next stops north and west.

When to play tennis in Venice and the Veneto

Beach on the Lido of Venice

The Venetian tennis calendar is shaped by humidity, crowds and the seasonal rhythm of the beach hotels.

  • Late April to June: the sweet spot. The Lido hotels have just opened, mornings are fresh and courts are easy to book.
  • July and August: hot and humid on the lagoon. Play before 9am or in the early evening, and expect peak prices around the Venice Film Festival at the turn of August and September.
  • September and early October: my favourite time. The sea is still warm, the light is soft and the summer crowds have gone.
  • November to March: the Lido and island hotels close or wind down, and acqua alta can flood the city. This is the moment for Abano Terme, where the thermal pools stay open all year.

Charlotte’s tip: add the Prosecco Hills

After a few days of tennis and lagoon, drive an hour north into the Prosecco country between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Our guide to Prosecco Hills wine tours from Venice has the best tastings, and our Locanda Sandi review covers a lovely place to sleep among the vines. Further west, our guide to Verona, Valpolicella and Lake Garda takes you on to Amarone country.

Hotels we looked at but did not include

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa on the Isola delle Rose has padel courts and a large spa, but we could not confirm a tennis court. Villa Cipriani in Asolo points guests to courts nearby. Villa Condulmer near Mogliano Veneto has golf, but no confirmed tennis court, and Almar Jesolo Resort & Spa does not list tennis. The historic Grand Hotel des Bains on the Lido has been closed since 2010; a restoration has been announced, but there is no opening date. If you are open to other regions, compare our guides to tennis hotels in Tuscany, South Tyrol, Rome, the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily.
