Tennis Hotels in Sardinia: The Best Luxury Hotels with Tennis Courts (2026)

Sardinia is better known for beaches than baselines, yet a few of its resorts take the game seriously. In the south, Forte Village runs a full academy on red clay. On the Costa Smeralda, the Mouratoglou name now sits on the courts at Cala di Volpe. Here are the luxury hotels with their own courts, the clubs nearby and the best months to play.

Every hotel below has tennis on its own grounds or runs the club next door. Where court numbers or surfaces are not published, ask the hotel.

Forte Village Resort (Santa Margherita di Pula)

On the south coast, under an hour by car from Cagliari airport, Forte Village is a resort of several hotels behind the beach, and tennis here is a programme rather than an amenity. There are 13 tennis courts, all floodlit, plus three padel courts and, according to a tennis travel site, a pickleball court. The academy offers individual and group training, week-long programmes and racquet hire and stringing, with international coaches and former players on site from April to October. Forte Village has also hosted professional events, including ITF tournaments.

Our research turned up contradictory information on the surfaces: all sources agree that 12 courts are natural red clay, but for the thirteenth, one tour operator lists synthetic clay, another tennis site says synthetic, and a third says hard court. It was not clear to us which applies, so confirm with the hotel if you want to train on a specific surface. Off court there are the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa, more than 20 restaurants and a large children’s programme. The resort is seasonal: it is open for a triathlon event on 24 and 25 October 2026, but ask the hotel for the exact opening and closing dates.

Best for: intensive tennis weeks, junior players and families who want courts, beach and kids clubs in one place. Read our full Forte Village review before you choose between its hotels.

Charlotte’s tip: use the floodlights in July

At Forte Village, book a lesson at 8am and a floodlit court after dinner, and leave the middle of the day to the sea. If you are comparing islands, our guide to tennis hotels in Sicily covers Verdura’s clay academy.

Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia (Chia, Domus de Maria)

About 20 minutes along the coast from Pula, Chia Laguna is a resort of several hotels above the dunes and lagoons of Chia; the Conrad is its five-star address, with 107 rooms split between the livelier Laguna area and the quieter, wooded Oasi area. The resort’s tennis club offers both clay and hard courts, according to a specialist Sardinia booking site, while an Italian business newspaper describes four panoramic courts with a choice of clay or synthetic surface. Check the current surface mix with the hotel. Courts are charged separately, floodlighting is not published, and there are two padel courts with a summer padel academy for adults and children.

Conrad guests have the heated Bioaquam pool and the Oasi pool, the Conrad Spa with a hydrotherapy circuit, several restaurants and a shuttle to the Dune di Campana beach. Season dates are not published: ask the hotel.

Best for: couples and families who want a choice of surfaces and the dune beaches of Chia close by.

Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi (Villasimius)

On the southeast tip of the island, near Villasimius, this five-star family resort sits above its own stretch of coast. Booking partners list a tennis court on site, but number, surface, lighting, coaching and padel are not published, so ask the hotel.

Elsewhere: a split-level pool above the sea, a family pool, the Acquapura Spa and several restaurants. Season dates: ask the hotel.

Best for: families in the southeast who want an occasional hit rather than daily coaching.

Hotel Cala di Volpe, a Luxury Collection Hotel (Porto Cervo)

Jacques Couëlle’s fantasy village on the bay of Cala di Volpe is the Costa Smeralda’s signature hotel, and since 2024 it has hosted the Mouratoglou Tennis Center Costa Smeralda. The centre has four outdoor hard courts and two padel courts, with private and small-group lessons from Mouratoglou-certified coaches, a junior programme for ages 5 to 16, adult clinics and court rental, which the academy says has limited availability in peak season. One tennis travel site describes the courts as floodlit, but the academy itself does not mention lighting, so ask the hotel.

Beyond tennis there is a Shiseido Spa, the Atrium Bar and the Pevero golf course nearby. The hotel opened its 2026 season on 16 April; ask the hotel for the closing date.

Best for: players who want structured coaching with a recognised method, in the most glamorous corner of the island. Read our full Hotel Cala di Volpe review.

Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo)

The Costa Smeralda’s original beach hotel reopened under Belmond management in 2024 and is being renovated in phases, with work continuing through 2026. Tennis is run by LUX Tennis, which offers private lessons, group clinics and camps, and the hotel also has padel. Belmond describes a court above the rocky headland, while booking listings mention courts in the plural; the number, surface and lighting are not published, so ask the hotel.

Off court there are fresh and saltwater pools, the Rosemary Wellness & Spa, a beach grill and a white sand beach. Ask for a renovated room when you book, and check season dates directly.

Best for: couples who want a beach hotel with a coached hit before breakfast.

Cervo Hotel, Costa Smeralda Resort (Porto Cervo)

Overlooking the Piazzetta and the marina, the Cervo Hotel is the place to stay if you want Porto Cervo village on foot and tennis in the morning. The hotel offers tennis courts in the heart of the village with private lessons from multilingual coaches, at the Cervo Tennis Club on Via Porto Vecchio. Our research turned up contradictory information on the club: the official Costa Smeralda site lists four synthetic courts and one padel court with coaches from the Golarsa Academy, while a tennis travel site lists five floodlit courts and says there is no full academy, only private lessons. It was not clear to us which applies, so confirm with the hotel before you book.

All 80 rooms have balconies, and there is a freshwater pool, a boat to a private beach from late May and several restaurants. The hotel opened its 2026 season on 27 March; ask the hotel for the closing date.

Best for: social players who want tennis, the marina and evenings in the Piazzetta.

Baglioni Resort Sardinia (San Teodoro)

South of Olbia, near San Teodoro, this Leading Hotels of the World resort opened in 2021. Travel partners list tennis and padel courts on site; the number of courts, surface, lighting and coaching are not published, so ask the hotel.

The resort has three outdoor pools, a spa with Finnish sauna, Turkish bath and ice fountain, and Gusto by Sadler, a Michelin-starred restaurant. The beach is about an eight-minute walk away. Season dates: ask the hotel.

Best for: food-focused couples who want a court and a padel game without the Porto Cervo price tag.

Smy Carlos V Wellness & Spa (Alghero)

On the seafront promenade of Alghero, a short walk from the old town, this five-star hotel is the practical choice on the northwest coast. Tennis is listed among the hotel’s facilities, but the number of courts, surface and lighting are not published, so ask the hotel. It is the only hotel in this guide that is open all year, which makes it useful for spring and autumn breaks.

There is an outdoor seawater pool (open roughly mid-May to mid-September), a wellness centre with heated pools and sauna, and two restaurants.

Best for: a city break with daily exercise and the walls of Alghero on your doorstep.

Where else to play tennis in Sardinia

Rules for visitors change each season, so ask your concierge to call ahead.

  • Porto Cervo: the Cervo Tennis Club on Via Porto Vecchio, near the waterfront, is linked to the Cervo Hotel (see above). Whether non-guests can book is not published, so ask.
  • Arzachena: the Arzachena Tennis Club, inland from the Costa Smeralda, has six courts and hosts the Emerald Open tournament in summer.
  • Olbia and La Maddalena: the Terranova Tennis Club in Olbia and the Moneta Tennis Club on La Maddalena both run summer tournaments. Guest access is not published.

For a cooler summer alternative, see our guides to tennis hotels on Lake Garda and tennis hotels in Tuscany.

When to play tennis in Sardinia

Beach on the Sardinian coast
  • April to June: the best months. Warm, bright and green, with courts easy to book.
  • July and August: often above 30°C. Play before 9am or after 6pm, and favour floodlit courts such as those at Forte Village.
  • September and October: my favourite months. Courts free up after mid-September. The mistral can blow hard on the north coast, so the south is the safer choice on windy weeks.
  • November to March: most beach resorts close. The Smy Carlos V in Alghero is open all year; for everything else, check dates directly.

Charlotte’s tip: book court time with your room

In July and August, ask for court times when you confirm your room, not on arrival. And pack two pairs of shoes: clay-court soles for Forte Village and all-court shoes for the hard courts at Cala di Volpe. If you love tennis with a sea view, our guide to tennis hotels on the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento is the natural next trip.

Hotels we looked at but did not include

For Hotel Pitrizza on the Costa Smeralda we could not find a tennis court of its own, and it is due to reopen as Cheval Blanc Pitrizza in 2027 after renovation. For Is Molas near Pula and Resort Valle dell’Erica in Santa Teresa Gallura, we could not confirm courts on site for 2026, so we left them out.
