Tennis in the Dolomites is a summer secret: cool mornings at 1,000 to 1,500 metres and pale limestone towers behind the baseline. The catch is that the famous names here were built for skiing, and many have no court at all. This guide sorts the Trentino and Cortina hotels with tennis on their own grounds from those that only point you to the village club, and flags the grand addresses closed in 2026.

If you are planning a wider Italian trip around the game, our hub on the best luxury hotels with tennis courts in Italy compares the mountains with the lakes and the coast. Across the provincial border, our guide to tennis hotels in South Tyrol covers Merano and the Passeier valley, where resort courts are more numerous.

The best hotels in the Dolomites of Trentino and Cortina with their own tennis courts

Every hotel below lists a tennis court on its own grounds. Mountain hotels rarely publish surface, floodlighting or court numbers, so where a detail is missing, ask the hotel. These are four-star and four-star superior hotels: the five-star addresses of Madonna di Campiglio and Cortina either have no court or are closed this year (see below).
Castelir Suite Hotel (Panchià, Val di Fiemme)
Castelir is the most personal stay in this guide: a villa in a large garden in Panchià, between Cavalese and Predazzo, with just seven suites of up to 75 square metres, each with its own entrance and majolica stove. The tennis court is red clay, and the hotel lists it alongside mountain bikes and snowshoes as free for guests. Floodlights, lessons and racquet hire are not published, so ask the hotel.
The heated quartzite pool is reached from indoors, and the wellness area of over 200 square metres has a Finnish sauna, Turkish bath and whirlpool. Castelir is rated four-star superior. It serves a gourmet breakfast but has no restaurant of its own: half board is arranged at the nearby Aquila Nera. Opening months: ask the hotel.
Best for: couples who want a private clay court, a quiet garden and a small number of fellow guests.

Alp & Wellness Sport Hotel Panorama (Fai della Paganella)
On the Paganella plateau, a short drive from Lake Molveno and Andalo, this four-star hotel treats racquet sports as a real programme. The local tourist board lists its Tennis Center with clay courts and a tennis instructor through the summer season, plus an indoor padel court for two players that works in any weather. One listing gives three outdoor clay courts, but the hotel itself does not publish a number, so ask the hotel. Floodlights are not stated.
The La Dolce Vita spa covers 1,200 square metres with saunas, an ice cave and indoor, outdoor and saltwater pools. Our research turned up contradictory information on the pool count: one tourism listing says eight heated pools, another says seven. It is a family hotel with a kids club and children’s pool, rather than an adults-only retreat. Seasonal closures are not published: ask the hotel.
Best for: active families and mixed groups who want coaching, padel and a big spa in one place.

Charlotte’s tip: string a little tighter
At altitude the air is thinner and the ball flies further than you expect. The first few sets in the mountains tend to send forehands long. If you travel with your own racquet, ask for two or three pounds more tension. And book the 9am slot: by mid-afternoon in July a thunderstorm often rolls in.
Franceschi Park Hotel (Cortina d’Ampezzo)
Run by the Franceschi family since 1923, this four-star hotel on Via Cesare Battisti sits in its own garden within easy reach of Cortina’s centre and about 700 metres from the Tofane cable car. It has an outdoor tennis court in the grounds, which is rare in Cortina. Surface, lighting and lessons are not published, so ask the hotel.
The hotel has around 47 rooms, a restaurant, a lounge bar and a wellness area with a sauna, Turkish bath and massage treatments. There is no swimming pool. Summer opening dates are not published: ask the hotel.
Best for: a classic Cortina stay where you can play before breakfast and walk to the Corso for lunch.

Boutique Hotel Villa Blu Cortina (Cortina d’Ampezzo)
Villa Blu is a four-star boutique hotel of 48 rooms. Cortina’s tourist board lists a summer tennis court among its services, and it appears on Tripadvisor’s list of Cortina hotels with courts. Our research turned up contradictory information here, though: at least one large booking platform does not list a court at all. It was not clear to us whether the court is in use every summer, so confirm with the hotel before you book. Surface and lighting: ask the hotel.
Wellness is a sauna and fitness corner, with no pool, plus a restaurant. Booking platforms show the hotel closed from 15 October to 6 December.
Best for: a smaller, simpler Cortina base for players who are happy to confirm the court in advance.

Hotel Cesa Tyrol (Canazei, Val di Fassa)
Cesa Tyrol sits at around 1,460 metres in Canazei, a short walk from the centre and a few steps from the Sellaronda lifts. The tennis court is part of the hotel’s own sports facilities. Surface, lighting and coaching are not published, so ask the hotel. One listing describes it as four-star superior, another as four-star: check the current category if it matters to you.
The standout is the new infinity pool on the second floor with a view of the mountains, alongside a heated outdoor pool and the Zen Spa with saunas, a steam bath and an onsen pool. The hotel is closed from 4 October to 3 December 2026.
Best for: combining a morning set with big hiking days on the Sella and Marmolada.

Kristiania Pure Nature Hotel & Spa (Cogolo di Pejo, Val di Sole)
Strictly speaking this one is not in the Dolomites: Cogolo sits in the Val di Pejo inside the Stelvio National Park, roughly an hour’s drive from Madonna di Campiglio. We include it because Madonna di Campiglio has no upscale hotel with a confirmed court, while Kristiania has been listed with two outdoor courts. Several booking and tourism listings we checked show no tennis at all, so confirm with the hotel before you book, and ask about surface and lighting.
It is a four-star superior hotel with the Acquaviva spa, indoor and seasonal outdoor pools and a clear family focus. It is closed from 27 September to 3 December 2026 and from 4 April to 28 May 2027.
Best for: families who want two courts, a spa and quieter valleys than the big resorts.

Prefer a lakeside base and a public court? Molveno has clay courts by the lido, an indoor court and the Brenta Dolomites reflected in the water.

The big names: closed in 2026 or no court
- Cristallo, Cortina: the grande dame listed a tennis court as a Luxury Collection resort, but it is closed for a long restoration and is due to reopen as Mandarin Oriental Cristallo in early 2027. Ask about the court when bookings open.
- Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel, Cortina: booking sites list a tennis court, but the hotel has been closed to regular guests since January 2023. Our research turned up contradictory information on 2026: a July 2025 local report said it would reopen only for Olympic staff and then close for renovation, while a November 2025 report said the owners aimed to reopen by Christmas. It was not clear to us whether it takes guests in summer 2026, so confirm directly.
- Hotel Lorenzetti, Madonna di Campiglio: some booking sites list a tennis court, Tripadvisor’s amenity list does not. We could not resolve this, so ask the hotel.
- Chalet del Sogno, Madonna di Campiglio: one platform’s tennis filter includes this five-star hotel, but the tourist board and ski operators mention no court. Unclear, so not listed.
- Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti, Pinzolo: a superb spa resort, sister to the one in our Lefay Resort Lago di Garda review, but without a court of its own. Tennis Club Pinzolo is nearby.
- Hotel Bertelli, Alpen Suite Hotel, Hotel de la Poste, Hotel Regina, Hotel Bellevue and Grand Hotel Savoia: we found no source showing a tennis court of their own.
Where else to play: public courts and clubs

Village courts here often beat the hotel ones and welcome visitors by the hour. Hours change every season, so call ahead.
- Cortina d’Ampezzo: Tennis Cortina 360 has five recently renovated outdoor clay courts near the centre, next to the climbing gym. It runs from June to October, and lessons with an instructor can be booked on request. Check daily hours with the club.
- Molveno: by the lido there are three clay courts and one tartan court, booked at the swimming pool ticket office, plus an indoor court bookable separately. Lessons are available.
- Andalo: the Andalo Life centre has five outdoor courts (three clay, two green-set) and an outdoor padel court with synthetic grass.
- Fai della Paganella: a public red clay court at the Capannina, open July to September.
- Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo: Madonna di Campiglio has public courts in the village and Pinzolo has its own tennis club. Ask your hotel to book.
- San Martino di Castrozza: the three-star Hotel San Martino has its own court, useful if you are staying nearby.
Riva del Garda, on the Trentino side of the lake, is an easy day trip: see our guide to tennis hotels on Lake Garda. For transfers and car hire, see our Italy travel planner.
When to play tennis in the Dolomites

- Late June to mid-July: my favourite window. Long days, green meadows, quiet courts and fresh mornings.
- Late July and August: peak season. Courts fill, prices rise and afternoon storms are common. Play early.
- September: settled weather, cooler evenings, and some hotels close late in the month.
- October to early December, and April to May: most of the hotels in this guide close. Winter is for skiing, not outdoor tennis.
Charlotte’s tip: split the trip
If tennis is the priority, a week in the Trentino Dolomites works best as part of a longer trip. Start with clay at Castelir or the Paganella, then cross into South Tyrol for a resort with several courts, such as the Quellenhof (read our Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier review). Pack layers: a 9am set at 1,400 metres can start in a fleece.
