Lake Garda packs more good golf into a half-hour drive than almost anywhere in Italy, so the real question is where to sleep. Some hotels sit on the fairways, others sit on the water and send you to the first tee by car. This guide covers both: which hotels have a course outside the door, which lakeside addresses offer golf rates, and how to match your base to the courses you want to play.

How to choose a golf base on Lake Garda

Garda’s golf falls into two clusters. The bigger one lies in the hills south and southwest of the lake, where Arzaga, San Vigilio and Gardagolf sit close together. The second is on the Veronese side: Ca’ degli Ulivi above Garda town, Paradiso del Garda near Peschiera and Golf Club Verona. Golf Bogliaco, founded in 1912, is the outlier on the western shore.
If golf is the main event and you want four or five different courses in a week, stay in the southern hills. If the trip is half golf and half lake life, pick a hotel on the water and accept a drive. And if you want to walk from breakfast to the first tee, four properties on Garda make that possible.
The best golf hotels on Lake Garda
QC Termegarda Spa & Golf Resort, Calvagese della Riviera
Many golfers still know this one as Palazzo Arzaga. After a renovation, the 15th-century palazzo in the hills behind Lonato and Desenzano was relaunched by the QC Terme group as QC Termegarda Spa & Golf Resort and reopened in January 2024 as a five-star with 78 rooms. The Arzaga Golf Club wraps around it: an 18-hole championship course from the Jack Nicklaus II design team, opened in 1998, and a nine-hole Gary Player course that rewards a sharp short game more than length. You are on the range within minutes of leaving your room.

The other draw is the new spa overlooking the course, described as one of the largest on the lake, with thermal pools, hydrotherapy circuits, saunas and steam rooms. Dining means a gourmet restaurant, a wine cellar and a lounge bar: this is a resort you stay inside. Gardagolf and San Vigilio are a short drive away. For guest green fee rates or preferred tee times, ask the hotel.
Best for: golfers who want 27 holes and a serious thermal spa under one roof.
Garda Hotel San Vigilio Golf, Pozzolengo
Formerly the Chervò Golf Hotel San Vigilio, this four-star surrounds a 12th-century Benedictine abbey in a park of around 110 hectares south of Sirmione. Its 36 holes are the largest golf offer on the lake: 27 championship holes by Kurt Rossknecht in three loops (Benaco, Solferino, San Martino), plus a nine-hole executive course, so you can play three different 18-hole rounds without leaving.

Off the course there is a spa with a sauna, Turkish bath and heated indoor saltwater pool, two seasonal outdoor pools and a restaurant that leans on lake fish and Garda wines. The setting is countryside rather than lakefront, but Sirmione is a short drive. Whether green fees are included or discounted for guests: ask the hotel.
Best for: a golf-first week with maximum variety on site.

Golf Hotel Ca’ degli Ulivi, Marciaga di Costermano
Up in Marciaga, above Garda town on the Veronese shore, this four-star sits a five-minute walk from the Ca’ degli Ulivi club, whose 27 holes (an 18-hole championship course plus the nine-hole Mirabello) look straight down onto the water. Few courses on Garda give you this much lake in your eyeline, and the restaurant terrace is a destination in its own right after a round.

Renovated in winter 2020/21, the hotel has suites, a panoramic infinity pool and a spa with massages, and many rooms face the lake. Bardolino and Valpolicella are close, making this the natural base for golfing wine lovers. For winter opening and guest green fee terms, ask the hotel.
Best for: lake-view golf with Bardolino and Valpolicella on the doorstep.

Active Hotel Paradiso & Golf, Castelnuovo del Garda
Just inland from Peschiera, this four-star has its own 18-hole course, Paradiso del Garda, with two outdoor pools above the fairways. It is the most family-friendly on-course option, with an indoor pool, a children’s pool, a sauna and steam bath, and a shuttle to Peschiera and the lake beaches.

The hotel is seasonal, open from mid-March to early November. Gardaland is nearby, so summer is busy; spring and autumn are calmer. For green fee arrangements, ask the hotel.
Best for: families and groups who want a course on site without five-star prices.

Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda, Gargnano
Lefay is the wellness heavyweight of the western shore, set in 11 hectares of parkland high above Gargnano on the Riviera dei Limoni. Its spa covers around 4,300 square metres, with a range of saunas, relaxation areas, indoor and outdoor saltwater pools and an infinity pool that seems to pour into the lake. Golf Bogliaco is the nearest course, a compact par 70 parkland layout about 100 metres above the water that has been open since 1912.

Tour operators report reduced green fees at Bogliaco and a transfer for Lefay guests; confirm current terms with the hotel. The southern courses are a longer drive, so think of Lefay as a spa holiday with two or three rounds rather than a golf week.
Best for: couples where one plays and one wants the best spa on the lake.

Grand Hotel Fasano, Gardone Riviera
A former Habsburg hunting lodge on the water at Gardone Riviera, Fasano belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World. Its renovated AQVA Spa has indoor and outdoor pools joined by a tunnel, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a lakeside garden, and Il Fagiano won a Michelin star in 2024.

There is no course on site: Bogliaco is about 7 km away, Arzaga around 25 km. Fasano closes over winter (it reopened in early April in 2025), so check dates for late-season trips. For tee times or golf rates, ask the hotel.
Best for: a classic lakefront grand hotel with golf as one ingredient among many.

Quellenhof Luxury Resort Lazise, Lazise
The South Tyrolean Quellenhof group’s five-star near Lazise is the lake hotel that takes golf most seriously. It advertises exclusive green fee rates at partner clubs, plus coaching for beginners. Paradiso del Garda and Ca’ degli Ulivi are about 11 km away, Golf Club Verona and San Vigilio around 21 km.

Discount amounts and shuttles are not published, so ask the hotel. The spa and pools keep non-golfers happy, and Lazise’s harbour is close for evenings.
Best for: a five-star base on the Veronese side with golf rates already arranged.

Villa Cortine Palace, Sirmione
A Relais & Châteaux neoclassical villa in a cypress park on the Sirmione peninsula, with lake-facing rooms, a private dock and restaurants including Le Gardenie and Al Molo. It is the most romantic address here, a short drive from San Vigilio and Arzaga.

We could not verify a golf partnership, so book tee times yourself or ask the hotel to arrange them. The outdoor pool and beach bar are seasonal.
Best for: a romantic lake stay with the southern courses within easy reach.

Also worth knowing: Aqualux Hotel Spa Suite & Terme in Bardolino sells packages bundling green fees at Ca’ degli Ulivi and Golf Club Verona with its thermal pools.

Sirmione puts you between the southern courses and the lake’s best evening scene. Compare hotels there before choosing between a resort and a lakefront base.

Combining golf with wine and spas

Garda’s golf hills are also wine hills, and each cluster of courses comes with its own appellation.
- Lugana: the crisp white of the southern shore grows on clay between Sirmione, Desenzano and Pozzolengo, next door to San Vigilio and Villa Cortine.
- Valtènesi: the hills around Arzaga produce Chiaretto, a pale rosé made for post-round lunches.
- Bardolino: light reds on the eastern shore, ideal from Ca’ degli Ulivi, Quellenhof or Aqualux.
- Valpolicella: for Amarone and Ripasso, head inland from the eastern shore. Our Valpolicella and Amarone wine tours guide covers the best estates, and the Verona, Valpolicella and Lake Garda guide helps you link a city day to the trip.
- Franciacorta: Italy’s finest sparkling wine region lies west of the lake, within an hour of the southern courses, and has its own 27-hole golf club. See our Franciacorta wine tours guide.
For spa days, QC Termegarda and Lefay are genuine wellness destinations, and Sirmione’s thermal baths are easy from the southern hotels; our Lake Garda guide covers them alongside boat trips and wine. If your group also plays tennis, our tennis hotels on Lake Garda guide shows where you can do both.
Charlotte’s tip: split the week across two shores
Do not spend a full golf week in one place here. Book three nights on course at Arzaga or San Vigilio and play the southern cluster. Then move to the lake, to Fasano, Lefay or Villa Cortine, play one more round and give the rest to boats, lunches and the spa. Golf first, holiday second, and nobody lives in the car.
Best season for a Lake Garda golf trip

The sweet spots are April to early June and September to October, when courses are in good shape and the lake hotels are open. July and August bring heat and traffic; play early and keep afternoons for the water. Bogliaco and Ca’ degli Ulivi play year-round, but many lakefront hotels close in winter, Fasano and Active Hotel Paradiso among them. Book tee times ahead in spring and autumn and carry your handicap certificate.
