Active Hotel Paradiso & Golf is the rare Lake Garda hotel where you can step out of your room and walk to the first tee. Set in four restored 18th-century farmhouses next to the 18-hole Paradiso del Garda course, just inland from Peschiera, it is a four-star rather than a polished five-star, and it shares its grounds with a large family resort full of pools. My one-line verdict: one of the best-value ways to play golf every day on Garda, as long as you come for the course and the convenience rather than for luxury in the strict sense.

Spring and autumn golf weeks and the Gardaland summer months fill first. Compare room types and board options before you commit.
Location and getting there

The hotel sits in open, gently rolling countryside on the border between Castelnuovo del Garda and Peschiera del Garda, at the south-eastern corner of the lake. You will often see it listed under either town. This is not a lakefront address: you look over fairways, not water. How far the shore is depends on which beach you mean, and published figures range from about 2 km to more than 7 km. Peschiera’s fortified old town is roughly 5 km away, and Gardaland is around 5 km.
That inland position is also the hotel’s biggest logistical advantage. Verona Villafranca airport is only about 20 km away, so the transfer takes roughly 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic, and the A4 motorway and Peschiera’s railway station, with fast trains to Verona, Milan and Venice, are close. Milan Bergamo is roughly one hour 15 to one hour 30 minutes by car, and Venice Marco Polo around one hour 45 minutes to two hours.
The hotel runs a shuttle to the centre of Peschiera and to the lake beaches in season, roughly from late March or April to October. Some listings call it free, others charge a fee, so ask the hotel. An airport shuttle is available at extra cost. A car still helps for other courses. Our Italy travel planner covers car hire and transfers.
Rooms and suites
The 62 rooms are spread over the converted farm buildings, with a lift. The rustic architecture sets it apart from the purpose-built hotels around Peschiera; interiors are classic rather than designer.
- Classic double: about 22 to 26 m², some with a terrace.
- Superior: about 29 to 31 m², several with a large panoramic window over the grounds.
- Junior Suite: about 35 to 50 m², with a sitting area.
- Suite: about 35 to 50 m², with a separate living area and sofa; some are laid out on two levels with a gallery bedroom.
- Accessible rooms: available on request.
All rooms have air conditioning, a safe, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a minibar, and tour operators mention a kettle and a small welcome on arrival. One honest caveat: several guest reviews from 2023 and 2025 describe the furnishings as dated. I found no published renovation programme for 2026, so if a fresh room matters to you, ask the hotel which rooms were refurbished most recently. Small dogs (up to about 10 kg) are accepted on request for a daily fee.
Dining
The hotel’s own restaurant is Il Pirlàr, an à la carte restaurant with a panoramic terrace over the golf course, serving modern dishes inspired by Lake Garda cooking. Breakfast is a continental buffet. Half board is offered, with menu-choice dinners.
- Il Pirlàr: the main restaurant, best on summer evenings on the terrace as the course empties.
- Buvette del Golfista: in the golf clubhouse, for hot and cold dishes and quick snacks between rounds.
- Piano bar: for an aperitivo or nightcap.
- Resort outlets: because the hotel is part of a larger resort, guests can also use the buffet restaurant at the neighbouring Parc Hotel, a pasta and pizza spot by its pool and a casual food bar by the lagoon pool. Which outlets are included in your board varies, so check.
On Michelin: I found no Michelin star or Michelin Guide listing for Il Pirlàr in 2026. Think of the food as good resort dining, not a culinary destination. For a special dinner, Verona and the eastern shore are close, and our Verona, Valpolicella and Lake Garda guide has ideas.

Spa and pools

The hotel has two outdoor pools in its garden, with a sun lawn, loungers and umbrellas subject to availability. Inside there is a small wellness area with a heated indoor pool and whirlpool, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath or Roman sauna, an experience shower and a gym with Technogym equipment. Massages and beauty treatments can be booked.
Our research turned up contradictory information on what is included: one tour operator lists the wellness area as included in the rate, while another says sauna use at the hotel is charged. It was not clear to us which applies, so confirm with the hotel before you book. Note also that the indoor pool is small (one operator lists it at about 53 m²) and bathing caps are required.
The bigger pool landscape belongs to the wider resort. In total it has around eight pools, two of them covered, including a lagoon pool of over 1,000 m² with a beach-style entry and a slide, a children’s pool with water games, and a larger wellness centre at the Parc Hotel with a covered pool, hammam and further saunas (extras charged there). Hotel guests can use several of these. Great for families, but lively rather than serene in July and August.
Sport and activities

Golf on the doorstep
This is the reason to book. The Golf Club Paradiso del Garda is right next to the hotel, a minute’s walk from reception to the clubhouse. The championship course has 18 holes, designed by the American architect Jim Fazio, and most listings give it as par 71, though one regional guide says par 70, so check the scorecard. At just under 6,000 metres from the back tees, it is a manageable length. Beside it, a 4-hole academy course, a driving range, putting green and chipping area make this a sensible place for beginners and improvers as well as regular players.
Tour operators report a 20 percent green fee discount for hotel guests, 10 percent off in the pro shop, lessons with the club’s teaching staff, and golf packages of three or four nights. Terms change from season to season, so ask the hotel for current rates and tee time arrangements. The course is listed as playable all year, weather permitting, but the hotel itself closes in winter. For how this course fits into the region, see our guide to golf hotels on Lake Garda and our course overview, golf on Lake Garda.
Everything else
The resort has tennis courts, football pitches (it hosts youth football camps), five-a-side, volleyball and basketball, minigolf, a skate park and an inflatable park for children. Bikes can be hired, with GPS routes along the Mincio river cycle path towards Peschiera and Mantua. In summer there is an entertainment programme with sports, tournaments and kids’ clubs, with lighter activities in spring and early autumn.
What’s nearby
- Peschiera del Garda: a UNESCO-listed Venetian fortress town on the water, about 5 km away and good for evening walks.
- Sirmione: about 20 km west, with the Scaliger castle and the Grotte di Catullo. Our Lake Garda guide covers Sirmione, boat trips and the best spas.
- Verona: about 30 km east for the Arena, opera evenings and serious restaurants.
- Lugana and Bardolino: two wine areas within a short drive, and Valpolicella beyond.
- Gardaland and the theme parks: around 5 km, plus Movieland and Caneva Aquapark. Handy with children, busy in high summer.
Active Hotel Paradiso vs other Lake Garda golf hotels
| Hotel | Location | Standout | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active Hotel Paradiso & Golf | Castelnuovo del Garda, near Peschiera | 18 holes plus academy course next door, resort pools | Golfers on a budget, families |
| QC Termegarda Spa & Golf Resort | Calvagese della Riviera, south-west hills | 27 holes at Arzaga, large spa, historic palazzo | Golf plus a five-star spa |
| Garda Hotel San Vigilio Golf | Pozzolengo, south of the lake | 36 holes around a medieval abbey | Variety without driving |
| Quellenhof Luxury Resort Lazise | Lazise, eastern shore | Five-star spa, lake views, partner green fees | Luxury first, golf second |
In short: if you want a five-star palazzo with golf at the door, read our QC Termegarda review. For more holes on one property, our Garda Hotel San Vigilio Golf review is the one to read. For lake views and a big spa, with Paradiso del Garda about 11 km away, the Quellenhof Lazise is the luxury alternative. Active Hotel Paradiso wins on price and on how quickly you get from bed to tee.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits:
- Golfers who want to play every day without driving, including beginners using the academy course and range.
- Families who want lots of pools, a slide, sports and children’s entertainment close to Gardaland.
- Groups and golf societies looking for packages at four-star prices.
It does not suit:
- Anyone expecting five-star polish, design rooms or a destination restaurant.
- Couples looking for quiet: the shared resort pools are busy and family-heavy in summer.
- Those who want lake views or to walk to the shore.
- Winter golfers, since the hotel closes for the cold months.
Charlotte’s tip: go early or late, and use the hotel as a hub
Book this for a golf week in April, May, September or early October. The course is at its best, the summer crowds from Gardaland have not arrived or have gone home, and green fees are easier to arrange. Play Paradiso del Garda on the days you want to roll out of bed, then use the short drives to fit in a round at Arzaga or San Vigilio, and finish with dinner in Peschiera or Sirmione.
Practical tips
- Booking: book a golf package at the same time as the room if you plan to play daily, and confirm the guest green fee discount in writing.
- Best rooms to request: a Superior with the panoramic window, or a two-level Suite for families. Ask for a recently refurbished room.
- Season: the hotel is seasonal, with recent published dates of about mid-March to early November. Minimum stays apply over Easter, May holidays and early June.
- Board: half board makes sense if you will be on the course all day; check which resort restaurants it covers.
- Dress: relaxed; bring a bathing cap for the indoor pool.
- Kids: children are welcome, with cots on request and plenty of activities. Ask the hotel about child discounts on your dates, as the published wording is unclear.
- Name check: the property also appears as “Active Hotel Paradiso & Golf Resort” or simply “Active Hotel Paradiso”, and under Peschiera or Castelnuovo del Garda. Do not confuse it with the Parc Hotel on the same grounds.
