Two of Italy’s most decorated golf clubs share the old Savoy hunting reserve of La Mandria outside Turin, a birch-lined classic sits near Biella, and a quiet parkland course at Cherasco lies a short drive from the Barolo villages. Add Lake Maggiore and you can build a week of serious golf, Barolo cellars and, in autumn, white truffles. This guide covers six courses, visitor rules and where to stay.

The courses: Turin and La Mandria

Both Turin clubs sit at Fiano, beside the La Mandria park north-west of the city, close to the Reggia di Venaria and Turin airport.
Royal Park I Roveri (Fiano, Turin)
Royal Park has two 18-hole, par 72 courses among the oaks of La Mandria. The Allianz Course by Trent Jones Sr. was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1971, the year the club was founded. The signature hole is the 17th, a par 4 and stroke index 1. It measures 6,566 metres from the championship men’s tee and 5,471 metres from the ladies’ tee.
The second course, the Allianz Bank Course, was designed by Michael Hurdzan with Dana Fry in 2006. It is flatter and more open, with ponds and bunkers as the main hazards. Lengths run from 6,572 metres (championship men) to 5,411 metres (ladies).
- Green fee: the club’s rates page lists €160 for adults, weekdays and weekends, and €80 for under 18s. No year is stated, so check with the club.
- Buggies: the club lists a golf cart at €60, an electric trolley at €30 and bag hire at €40.
- Visitor access: our research turned up contradictory information here. The club’s rates page lists green fees without restrictions, while a golf directory says the Trent Jones course requires club membership and gives handicap limits of 26 (men) and 32 (women) on the Hurdzan course. It was not clear to us which applies, so confirm with the club before you book.
- Closing day and certificate rules: not published on the club’s site, so check with the club.
- Distance: the club lists hotels in central Turin at 19 to 27 km away.
Circolo Golf Torino La Mandria (Fiano, Turin)
Founded in 1920, the Circolo Golf Torino moved to La Mandria in 1956. The Blue Course was built that year to a design by John Morrison; the club credits the Yellow Course to John Harris, with its first nine holes built in 1967. Both are par 72. The club has hosted the Italian Open four times, most recently the 83rd edition in 2026.
On the tree-framed Blue Course, the par 4 6th is stroke index 1 and the 17th is a long left dogleg. On the Yellow Course, water crosses the par 4 15th twice and the par 3 14th plays over a lake. The club’s tee lengths are not clearly labelled, so check the scorecard with the club.
- Green fee: the club’s visitor page lists €120 or €140 on weekdays and €140 or €160 at weekends, without explaining the two figures or the year. Check with the club.
- Buggies: golf cart €70, electric trolley €20, full bag hire €35.
- Booking: by email; the office is open Tuesday to Sunday.
- Handicap limit, certificate rules and members’ days: not published on the club’s visitor page, so check with the club.
The courses: Biella, Monferrato and the Langhe
Golf Club Biella Le Betulle (Magnano)
Le Betulle threads through birch and beech woods in the Serra moraine hills. The Biella tourism board credits the design to John Morrison, and the club dates from 1958. It is an 18-hole, par 73 course, and the 16th looks out over the Biella Alps. Published back-tee lengths vary between 6,497 and 6,534 metres, so ask the club for the current card. There is a small lodge hotel at the club (the regional tourism portal says 20 rooms) and golf carts for hire.
- Season and closing day: Our research turned up contradictory information here. The Biella tourism board gives March to November, closed on Mondays except bank holidays, while the Piedmont regional tourism portal says the course is open all year round. Check with the club.
- Green fee, handicap limit and certificate rules: we could not find them published by the club itself, so check with the club.
- Distance: about 15 km from the Albiano exit on the A4 and A5 motorways. From central Turin, allow roughly an hour.
Margara Golf & Country Club (Fubine Monferrato)
Margara, established in 1972 in the hills of Monferrato, is Piedmont’s nearest thing to a golf resort. The Glauco Lolli Ghetti Course is classic parkland framed by large oaks, 18 holes and par 72, measuring 6,349 metres from the white tees and 5,415 metres from the red. Its 11th, the shortest par 5, has a green ringed by water. It has hosted two Ladies Italian Opens. La Guazzetta is a more modern, links-style par 72 with broad water hazards, 6,597 metres from the back and 5,359 metres from the red tees.
- Green fee: the club’s rates page (updated March 2026) lists €70 for 18 holes on weekdays and €100 on holidays, with nine holes at €40 and €60.
- Buggies: €50 for 18 holes, €30 for nine; electric trolley €20.
- Stay: rooms in Villa Margara and lodges facing the practice area.
- Closing day, handicap and certificate rules: not published, so check with the club.
- Distance: the club lists Turin airport at 112 km, Genoa at 102 km and Milan Malpensa at 124 km.
Golf Club Cherasco (Cherasco, near the Langhe)
It lies in the province of Cuneo between Bra and La Morra, a short drive from the Barolo villages. The design is by Marco Croze: 18 holes, par 72, laid out on two levels with lakes and mature trees, and a length of 5,766 metres from the men’s yellow tees and 5,143 metres from the red. The regional tourism board gives the opening year as 1979, while a European golf directory lists the club as founded in 1982; we could not confirm which is right.
- Green fee, buggies, closing day and certificate rules: the club’s own site did not load during our research and directory figures are not a substitute, so check with the club.
- Distance: roughly 15 km from La Morra and around 25 km from Alba. Turin airport is a little over an hour away.
The courses: Lake Maggiore

Golf Club des Iles Borromées (Brovello-Carpugnino, above Stresa)
Founded in 1987, this course sits at around 500 metres in the hills above Stresa. Italy’s official tourism portal credits the design to Marco Croze. It is an 18-hole, par 72 course of about 6,100 metres from the back. On clear days the 18th looks across the plain as far as Milan.
- Green fee, handicap limit and closing day: not available to us from the club itself, so check with the club. Directories list electric carts for hire.
- Distance: roughly 10 km from the Stresa lakefront and about an hour from Milan Malpensa.
We could not verify current details for other Lake Maggiore clubs. Comparing lakes? Our guide to golf courses on Lake Como covers the next lake east.

How to plan a golf trip to Piedmont
Best months and weather
April to June and September to October give the most reliable conditions; July and August can be hot and humid on the plain, so book early tee times. October suits couples where only one plays: the harvest ends and the Alba White Truffle Fair runs through October and November. Opening months at Le Betulle are reported differently (March to November, or all year), so check with the club.
Transfers with clubs
Turin Caselle suits La Mandria, Biella and the Langhe; Milan Malpensa suits Lake Maggiore. The courses are spread out, so hire a car, or book a private driver with room for golf bags if you plan to taste wine. Our Italy travel planner covers transfers and car hire.
Booking tee times
Book directly with each club by email and attach your handicap certificate or federation card. None of these clubs publishes full certificate rules in English, so ask when you book. Royal Park’s terms say a green fee is only usable once you have booked a date and tee time with the secretariat, and that members and tournaments take priority, so weekdays are easier.
Dress code
Expect traditional golf attire: collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers and soft-spiked shoes. Dress codes are not published in detail, so check with the club.
Combining golf with wine, food and the lake
Try two days around Turin, then three or four in the Langhe. Non-golfing partners can spend a La Mandria morning at the Reggia di Venaria (see our Turin tickets and two-day guide) and an evening on vermouth and gianduja with our Turin food guide. For the wine side, read what Piedmont is actually famous for and our wine hotels in the Langhe.
Charlotte’s tip: play La Mandria on a weekday, then head south
Book Royal Park and Circolo Golf Torino on consecutive weekdays with two nights in Turin. Then drive south and keep Cherasco as a relaxed final round on an October weekday morning, leaving the afternoon for a cellar visit and a truffle dinner. Ask your hotel to reserve both before you arrive, because autumn weekends book up early.
Check prices and availability
Alba is about half an hour from Cherasco, and truffle season fills hotels fast.
Where to stay: luxury hotels near the courses

None of these hotels has its own course; they put you within reach of one and make the non-golf days special.

This 1863 palace on the Stresa lakefront faces Isola Bella and is the classic base for the Iles Borromées course, roughly 10 km up the hill. It has a large spa and a seasonal garden pool complex. Palas Cerequio Barolo Cru Resort, La Morra
A handful of suites owned by the Michele Chiarlo winery, set in the Cerequio vineyard below La Morra. It is the closest of these Langhe hotels to Cherasco, about 15 km away. It has closed in winter in past years, so ask the hotel for dates.

Il Boscareto Resort & Spa, Serralunga d’Alba
A 49-room resort in the Barolo zone with a spa and La Rei Natura, which holds three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide. Cherasco is around 30 km away, so allow about 40 minutes.
Best for: spa and fine dining between rounds.
Castello di Guarene, Guarene
A Relais & Châteaux castle hotel with 12 rooms and suites at the top of Guarene in the Roero, just north-east of Alba. Cherasco is roughly 30 km away. Truffle hunts can be arranged in October and November. Ask the hotel about winter opening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a handicap certificate to play golf in Piedmont?
In practice, yes. Directories list a handicap certificate as required at most courses here, but clubs rarely publish exact rules, so send yours with your booking request.
Which Piedmont course is best for a beginner or high handicapper?
Cherasco is the shortest course in this guide and is described by the regional tourism board as playable by every level.
Can I combine golf with a Barolo wine tour?
Easily. Cherasco is about 15 km from La Morra, so a morning round and an afternoon tasting fit into one day.
