Park Hotel Imperial is not a lakefront palace and it does not try to be one. It is a five-star hotel set in a Mediterranean garden of palms and oleanders on the edge of Limone sul Garda, and its real reason to exist is the Centro TAO, a Natural Medical Spa that has been blending traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine here for more than 30 years. My one-line verdict: arguably the most distinctive wellness address on the north-west shore, provided you accept a hotel that feels more classic than cutting edge.

Location and getting there

Limone sits where the western shore of Lake Garda turns into a fjord: limestone walls rise almost straight out of the water, and the village squeezes onto a narrow ledge between cliff and lake. Park Hotel Imperial lies on a gentle slope just south of the centre, in its own walled garden. The old town, the harbour and the historic lemon houses are roughly 600 to 650 metres away, which means a pleasant walk down and a short climb back.
The flip side of that setting: the hotel is not on the water, and tall trees in the garden soften some of the lake views. There are also a fair number of steps, and at least one booking partner says the property does not suit guests with reduced mobility, so check access with the hotel if that matters to you.
Verona Villafranca is the natural gateway, roughly 95 to 100 km away. Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes by car, a little more on summer weekends when the Gardesana road along the western shore slows down. Milan Bergamo is further, so plan on well over two hours. Our Italy travel planner covers transfers and car hire.
Rooms and suites
The hotel opened in 1986, and the building shows its age in places: one long-standing review site describes some rooms as updated and others as dated. Room counts in published listings range from 61 to 65, with one breakdown of 31 rooms and 34 suites. Every room has a balcony or terrace facing either the garden or, partially, the lake, plus air conditioning, a minibar, a kettle and bathrobes for the spa.
- Double Prestige, garden view: about 24 m², with a terrace over the palms. The entry category.
- Double Prestige, partial lake view: the same size, with a partial lake view. This is the minimum I would book.
- Junior Suite: about 26 m², marble bathroom, partial lake view terrace. Some are in the main building, others in the Suite House.
- Garden Suite: around 30 to 35 m², with a large terrace over the garden and a sofa bed.
- Superior Suite: about 55 m², with a separate living room and space for up to four adults. The best choice for longer TAO stays.
If an unobstructed view of the water is the point of your trip, ask the hotel which rooms have it before you pay the supplement.
Dining
Dining is relaxed and Mediterranean rather than ambitious. The hotel’s own website calls its main restaurant the Imperial Restaurant, while booking partners list it as “Vista” or “PHI Restaurant”, so do not be confused if the name changes between sites. The kitchen works with local olive oil, lake fish, Limone lemons and olives, and the head chef is not named on the hotel’s website.
- Breakfast: a buffet, served on the terrace in summer with a view over the garden towards the lake.
- Imperial Restaurant: à la carte dinner with Mediterranean dishes and a wine list; half board guests eat here too. Smart casual is expected, and one tour operator notes no shorts at dinner.
- Pool bar and lunch: light meals by the outdoor pool in season.
- Lounge Bar: cocktails, with live piano music on many evenings.
On Michelin: the hotel’s restaurant has no star in the 2026 guide. The only starred table in Limone is Senso Lake Garda Alfio Ghezzi, with one MICHELIN Star, which makes an easy special dinner out on one evening. Tell the hotel in advance if you are on half board.

Spa and pools

This is the section that matters. The Centro TAO describes itself as the first Natural Medical Spa in Italy, and it has operated inside the hotel for more than three decades. It is not a hotel spa with a few massages bolted on: programmes start with a medical and energetic assessment, and a team of doctors and naturopaths combine traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine, nutrition and dermocosmetics.
The TAO programmes
- Tao Experience: a single day of full immersion, with a consultation, treatments and healthy meals.
- Tao Minicura: a three-day programme, which the centre recommends for first-timers.
- Tao Salute: a seven-day detox and/or slimming nutritional programme.
- Tao Plus: a weekly à la carte programme running Sunday to Sunday, offered from 1 March to 8 December 2026.
Treatments include acupuncture, foot reflexology, meridian massage, cupping, flower therapy and tuina massage with energy steam baths, alongside classic facials and body treatments.
Spa facilities and pools
The wet area includes a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, sensory showers, a whirlpool and cold plunges, next to an indoor pool. Outside, the hotel has a large swimming pool and a heated hydromassage pool kept at around 34 to 35°C, which one tour operator describes as an infinity pool. The outdoor pools normally run from May to September. Access rules vary by package: one tour operator reports that spa entry is for adults only and that one visit per stay is included in its rates, and one booking partner lists spa hours with a closure on Mondays. Ask the hotel for current hours, fees and age rules before you arrive.
Sport and activities

Park Hotel Imperial appears in our guide to tennis hotels on Lake Garda as a wellness-first stay with a little tennis on the side, and that remains a fair summary.
Tennis
The hotel has one tennis court. Listings disagree on the details: some describe it as available to guests, others list it as charged extra, and one listing mentions a sports trainer. The surface is not published, and a guest review from 2022 criticised its condition. Our research could not settle these points, so confirm the fee, surface and current condition with the hotel before you pack racquets. Serious players are better served at Alto Garda Tennis in Limone, which has three red clay courts and a padel court, or by a stay at Du Lac et Du Parc in Riva del Garda, which has its own clay court and a coach. For the bigger picture, see the best luxury hotels with tennis courts in Italy.
Fitness and the outdoors
The gym uses Technogym equipment, and personal training is part of the TAO offer. One booking partner also mentions a second, open-air gym on the roof with lake views; ask the hotel whether it is in use on your dates. Beyond the gate, Limone is superb for active days: the cliff-side cycle and pedestrian path north of the village, which opened its first section in 2018, the hiking trails into the Alto Garda park, and sailing and windsurfing from Riva and Torbole, around 20 minutes north. Golfers can use Golf Bogliaco, about 20 km south, where one listing mentions a discount for hotel guests.
What’s nearby
- Limone old town: lanes, a tiny harbour and the Limonaia del Castel, a restored lemon house that explains why the village got its name. Easily walkable from the hotel.
- Malcesine: directly across the water, with a Scaliger castle and the cable car up Monte Baldo. Ferries link the two shores.
- The rest of the lake: Sirmione, boat trips, wineries and spas are all covered in our Lake Garda guide.
Park Hotel Imperial vs other Lake Garda hotels
| Hotel | Location | Standout | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park Hotel Imperial | Limone sul Garda, north-west shore | TAO Natural Medical Spa with doctors and TCM, heated outdoor pool | Detox and medical wellness weeks |
| Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda | Gargnano, western shore | Large spa with its own wellness method, all-suite resort, MICHELIN Key | Top-tier spa holidays |
| Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort | Riva del Garda, northern tip | Park to the lakeshore, red clay court, padel, coaching | Active families and tennis players |
In short: Lefay is the more polished and more expensive spa resort (read our Lefay Resort review), Du Lac et Du Parc is the sport choice, and Park Hotel Imperial is the one to pick if you want a medical, TCM-led programme rather than pampering alone.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits:
- Guests who want a structured detox, nutrition or TCM programme with medical supervision.
- Couples looking for a calm, garden-wrapped base within walking distance of Limone.
- Hikers and cyclists who want a spa to come back to on the north-west shore.
It does not suit:
- Travellers who want a lakefront terrace or a private jetty.
- Design lovers who expect a brand-new interior throughout.
- Keen tennis players who need a well-kept court and coaching on site.
- Guests with limited mobility, given the steps and the slope.
- Anyone wanting a winter break: the hotel is closed for most of the cold season.
Charlotte’s tip: start with three days, not one
Skip the one-day Tao Experience and book the three-day Minicura in May or late September. The heated outdoor pool is already open, the lemon houses are quiet, and three days is enough for the assessment to actually shape your treatments. Then add one dinner at Senso in town.
Practical tips
- Booking: reserve TAO programmes and treatments when you book the room, and ask for language support if you do not speak Italian.
- Best rooms to request: a Double Prestige or Junior Suite with partial lake view, or a Superior Suite for a week-long programme. Ask which rooms have been renovated most recently.
- Season: 2026 offers run from 1 March to 8 December. The outdoor pools normally open from May to September, so April and October stays rely on the indoor pool.
- Dress: relaxed by day, smart casual at dinner.
- Kids: children are welcome and there is a playground, but the spa and the TAO programmes are aimed at adults. Ask the hotel about age rules for the spa.
