Sardinia has few golf courses for its size, but they sit in memorable places: on a granite ridge between two bays on the Costa Smeralda, in a pine forest behind the west coast dunes, and on the plain behind the beaches of Pula. Winters are mild, so the island works for golf in spring and autumn as well as early summer. Here are the five courses worth planning around, the right base for each, how to combine north and south, and where to stay with a partner who would rather be on the beach.

The best golf courses in Sardinia

Facts below come from the clubs’ own pages where available, the regional tourist board and golf directories. No club had published a dated 2026 green fee list, a weekly closing day or members’ only times when we checked, so check with the club before booking.
Pevero Golf Club (Porto Cervo, Costa Smeralda)
Robert Trent Jones Sr. laid out Pevero for the original Costa Smeralda development, and the course was inaugurated in 1972. It is 18 holes, par 72, routed north to south across a granite ridge between the Gulf of Pevero and the bay of Cala di Volpe. It hosted the 1978 Italian Open. Our research turned up contradictory information on the length: a golf directory lists 6,170 metres from the white tees and 5,805 metres from the yellows, while the Costa Smeralda consortium gives 6,107 metres. It was not clear to us which applies, so check the current scorecard with the club.
Expect elevated tees, fairways squeezed by rock and macchia, little room around the greens and the Mistral, the northwesterly wind. The consortium highlights the 4th, with views of Corsica and Caprera at the same time, and the 16th, named after the Bond film shot nearby. The Francesco Molinari Golf Academy offers lessons to guests.
- Handicap: valid home club certificate, limit 36 for men and women.
- Buggies: electric carts and electric trolleys for hire; on this hilly layout a cart makes sense from June to September.
- Guest access: listed as open to visitors every day, all year. Closing day and 2026 green fees: check with the club.
- Distance: about 10 minutes from Porto Cervo, roughly 35 to 45 minutes from Olbia airport.
Is Molas Golf Club (Santa Margherita di Pula)
About 30 km from Cagliari and around 3 km inland, Is Molas is the island’s largest golf complex according to the regional tourist board, with 27 holes: an 18 hole Championship course and a nine hole Yellow course. The club credits the Championship course to the Cotton, Pennink & Partners studio, to a design by Piero Mancinelli. The club gives 1975 as the opening year, while a golf directory says 1976; we could not settle which is right.
The Championship course is par 72 and 6,383 metres from the whites, with a forward women’s card of around 5,524 metres. Four Italian Opens have been played here. The club singles out the par 4 5th as probably its most punishing hole, and the par 3 14th, with a green shaped like Africa. Flatter and more open than Pevero, it suits a relaxed week of daily golf.
- Handicap: valid certificate required, limit not published; book ahead.
- Buggies: carts listed on the club’s rate card at 50 to 60 euros for 18 holes, plus hand trolleys and rental sets.
- Guest access: every day, all year, with higher weekend fees. Closing day: check with the club.
- Green fees: the club’s rate page lists 80 to 135 euros for 18 holes and 50 to 70 euros for nine by season, with no year stated; confirm 2026 rates. The on-site Is Molas Resort sells unlimited golf packages for April to October 2026, except July and August.
- Distance: a short drive from Forte Village, roughly 45 minutes from Cagliari airport.
Is Arenas Golf & Country Club (Narbolia, west coast)
Is Arenas sits in an 800 hectare pine forest behind the dunes of the central west coast, about 20 km from Oristano and some 500 metres from the sea. Italy’s national tourism site credits the American architect Robert von Hagge; a golf directory adds his partners Smelek and Baril and dates the 18 hole course to 1998. It is par 72, around 6,317 metres from the whites and 5,947 from the yellows, with a three hole executive course and a 40 bay driving range beside it.
Expect pine-lined fairways and far less traffic than on the Costa Smeralda. The club has guest rooms in the Foresteria della Colonna near the 5th hole, a bistro and a private beach for guests.
- Handicap: valid certificate required, limit not published.
- Buggies: electric carts and trolleys for hire; the course is walkable but long between some holes.
- Guest access: listed as open to visitors every day. Closing day, winter hours and 2026 green fees: check with the club.
- Distance: roughly an hour and a half from Cagliari or Alghero airport, around two hours from Pula.
Tanka Golf Villasimius (southeast coast)
Tanka is the newest course here, designed by Luigi Rota Caremoli and opened in 2006 or 2007 (sources differ), beside the Capo Carbonara marine protected area about 45 minutes from Cagliari. It is 18 holes, par 70, 5,418 metres from the whites and as short as 4,223 metres from the most forward tees. The regional tourist board describes a more varied front nine, a flatter back nine and floodlights for evening play.
- Handicap: certificate or card required, limit 54, the most forgiving rule of the five courses here.
- Buggies: electric carts and trolleys for hire.
- Guest access: listed as open every day, all year. Closing day and 2026 green fees: check with the club.
- Distance: roughly an hour and a half from Pula via Cagliari.
Golf Club Puntaldìa (San Teodoro)
About 25 km south of Olbia airport, Puntaldìa is a nine hole course founded in 1990, 1,831 metres from the men’s yellow tees, with Tavolara island as the backdrop. No par is published on the scorecard listing. It suits a late afternoon loop or an occasional golfer rather than a serious test.
- Handicap: valid certificate, limit 36; booking ahead is essential.
- Buggies: electric carts and trolleys for hire.
- Season: weather dependent; directory fee periods run from mid April to early November. Check winter opening with the club.
- Distance: about an hour from Porto Cervo.
There is no golf course at Chia or at Le Saline; golfers staying in Chia drive to Is Molas.

How to plan a golf trip to Sardinia

Best months and weather
April to early June and mid September to October are the sweet spot: warm and quieter on the tee sheet. July and August are hot and busy, so play early. Winters are mild and the clubs list year round play, but many beach hotels close out of season, so a winter trip needs a hotel that stays open.
Which base for which course
- Costa Smeralda (Porto Cervo, Cala di Volpe): Pevero on the doorstep, Puntaldìa for a second round, fly into Olbia.
- Pula and Chia: Is Molas, with Tanka as a day out, fly into Cagliari.
- Oristano area: Is Arenas, best as a two night stop on a road trip between north and south.
Combining two areas
Pevero and Is Molas are around four hours apart by car, so do not attempt both from one base. The cleanest plan: four nights on the Costa Smeralda, a night or two at Is Arenas, then three or four nights in Pula, flying into Olbia and out of Cagliari.
Transfers, tee times and dress code
Tell your hotel you travel with golf bags so it sends a large enough car, or hire an estate; on a two base trip a hire car is simpler. Our Italy travel planner covers car hire. Book Pevero well ahead for May to October and bring your handicap certificate everywhere. Dress codes are not published in detail, so plan on collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers, soft spikes and no denim.
Wine and sea days
The Costa Smeralda pairs naturally with a La Maddalena boat day and a Vermentino tasting in Gallura; our guide to yacht, wine and golf in Sardinia has the full plan, and Sardinia by boat covers routes and park rules. For the island’s wines, see our guide to Italian wine regions.
Charlotte’s tip: play Pevero early and leave a spare day
Book the first tee time of the morning at Pevero, before the wind picks up and the heat builds, and keep a second, flexible date in reserve in case the Mistral blows. A non-golfing partner has the Cala di Volpe beaches minutes away.
Where to stay: luxury hotels near the courses

The first three suit Pevero, the last two Is Molas. Check season dates before booking.

Cervo Hotel, Costa Smeralda Resort (Porto Cervo)

Best for: spring golfers who want the village and the marina within walking distance.
Forte Village Resort (Santa Margherita di Pula)
A resort of several hotels behind the beach on the south coast, under an hour from Cagliari airport and a short drive from Is Molas. The Acquaforte thalasso spa, more than 20 restaurants, a tennis academy and a children’s programme keep non-golfers busy. The resort is seasonal; ask the hotel for opening and closing dates. Read our Forte Village review before choosing between its hotels.
Best for: families and couples who want Is Molas with a full beach resort.
